For all the attention we give the Bavarian Tracht outfits, we’ve certainly been negligent in advising ladies about the best Oktoberfest hairstyles. First, let us offer our sincere apologies. At this point, you’ve probably purchased your Oktoberfest apparel and have the entire outfit squared away. But you haven’t quite figured out how to do your hair. What ever are you going to do about that?

Pigtails

 This is one of the most common hairstyles for women at Oktoberfest. This old look originated in 17^th century Europe and has never lost its relevancy. To do this hairstyle, you simply weave two asymmetrical braids of hair: one on each side of the scalp so they flow down each shoulder.

 Braided Crown

The braided crown simply reassembles your braids to make your hair look…well…like a crown. This style was designed for hair with medium to long length. Simply separate your hair into two braided pigtails based low on the scalp (braided with clear elastics). Pull one braid over your head and pin it one inch behind your hairline. Do the same with the opposite braid, except make sure that it is pinned behind the first braid.

Braided Halo

The braided halo is much like the braded crown, except way more Game of Thrones-y. Separate the upper portion of your hair (temples and crown) and clip it atop your head. Take a thin strand of hair from each temple and French-braid it. Secure both the braids with a clear elastic band. Then, remove the clip that was holding your upper portion of hair. Create a small poof of the upper portion and pin the braids at its base.

Flower Bun

The flower bun allows you to pin your long hair into an elegant and contained style. Part your hair back and separate a one-inch strand of hair at each of your temples. Clip these temple sections back. Then, you put the remaining hair into one giant strand and create three low braids secured by elastics. Twist each braid until they curl into themselves and secure it with a pin. Unclip the two temple strands and pin them under the braided bun. Fishtail Braid

The fishtail braid is a very texturized style with all its emphasis on one single braid of hair. Create a low ponytail towards one side of your shoulders, secured by clear elastic. Then, separate the ponytail into two sections. Hold one section in place while you take a small strand from the other section. Weave this thin strand around the first section of hair. Continue bringing small strands onto the first section until the other section is completely gone. Secure the end of the strand with clear elastic and cut off the original band that was holding the ponytail together.

 Short Curls

Many of these hairstyles have been created for those with lots of hair to work with. But if you have short hair, there’s nothing to worry about: curls will do the trick for you. Starting at the front, take a small section of hair and wrap it around a curling iron (while keeping the iron a fair distance away from your skin). Continue doing this with each strand of hair until you’ve reached the back of your head.

Bonnet

The bonnet is old school. It was one of the most popular women’s hats for centuries. Now, it’s slightly more common than a men’s top hat. However, they very much fit with the Oktoberfest theme. If you’re feeling lazy about hairstyles and don’t feel like packing curling irons and clear elastics, just throw on a bonnet. People will understand.

There’s lots of room for creativity when deciding which hairstyle to sport to Oktoberfest. You can go with the traditional bonnet or pigtails, or you can make something new based out of the old braiding formula. Whatever you end up deciding on, just make sure it’s in the spirit of Oktoberfest!
