The famous Munich Hofbrauhaus has one of the richest histories of all Munich breweries. It was founded in 1589 by the Duke of Bavaria, Wilhelm V, and continues to be owned by the state. Throughout the years it's hosted luminaries such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, John F. Kennedy, and even NASA astronauts. The Hofbrauhaus beer once even saved the city of Munich from destruction when a conquering invader agreed to spare the city if he was given 600,000 barrels of Hofbrauhaus beer.
