For a traditional Oktoberfest celebration, start with the essentials.

1. German beer
In a country that enacted a German Beer Purity Law back in 1516, a true Oktoberfest party is not complete without German, or better yet, Bavarian beer. The following big six breweries are featured at Oktoberfest in Munich: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbrauhaus, Lowenbrau, Paulaner and Spaten. You should be able to find at least one of the above at your local liquor store during Oktoberfest season.

2. Oktoberfest Party Decorations
No party is complete without decor. Oktoberfest is held in Munich and thus a Bavarian celebration. The traditional blue Bavarian check pattern is the color scheme to follow.
