About the official Oktoberfest Munchen design... Since 1952, the selection of the official Oktoberfest poster is made by a jury, which chooses among invited candidates. The 18 participants usually come from art and design schools or have won some prize or award before to qualify for a starting place in the Oktoberfest poster competition. Each of the artists gets to send in 2 designs and - no matter on how well his designs are accepted - receives a royalty of 500 (approx $654.00). The jury chooses their favorite, without knowing who designed which poster.
The prizes in 2012 No second place was awarded this year, so the two runner ups had to share the third place, each of them receiving 750 ($980.00). The winner does not only get 2750 ($3,593.00), but also the big honor of getting to see his design on approximately 10,000 posters and about 100,000 brochures, published in German, English and Italian language. Also, since 1978, the winning design gets to be on the official collectors' mug, a steadily growing series of glass or stone mugs, each showing the official poster design of the respective year.
